Position Description

The Communications Specialist assists in establishing a safe and welcoming environment that supports people on various Recovery pathways. The Communications Specialist shall coordinate and manage the centers telephone ‘Warm Line’ and our daily ‘Recovery Check-In telephone calls. The Communications Specialist shall utilize email, live online chats, social media, and web-based bulletin boards with center members, strengthening relationships and engaging individuals in center activities and recovery supports of their choosing. The Communication Specialist will help facilitate peer supervision and provide support to volunteers who will answer phones, conduct outreach phone calls, provide recovery coaching at the center, or any other communication support roles to be determined and in keeping with center policies and procedures.  The Communication Specialist reports to the center Director and works closely with the Director and the Program Coordinator.

Required Duties

  • Complete CCAR Recovery Coach training within 3 months of hire

  • Complete CCAR Recovery Coach in the Emergency Department training within 6 months of hire

  • Complete CCAR Ethics training within 6 months of hire

  • Complete training for the TRS (telephone recovery support) system and other peer support models.  If hired, this training will be provided by center staff.

  • Provide Peer Recovery volunteer supervision which will include coaching and support to volunteers providing Peer Support Recovery services (i.e. ‘Warm Line’ phone calls, making ‘Recovery Check-In’ daily calls

  • Creating social media post-Facebook, Instagram etc.

  • Designing/uploading web-based content

  • Designing/producing print-based materials

  • Work flexibly within a team environment at the center to assist with onsite Peer Recovery support activities

  • Identify community resources that could benefit from information by the center


Required Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Personal experience with Recovery and Peer Recovery support models

  • Demonstrate strong verbal communications skills

  • Proficient computer skills, working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

  • Experience with social media and other Web-based communications technology

  • Demonstrate professional telephone and customer service experience

  • Demonstrate ability to supervise diverse volunteer personnel in a fair and compassionate manner

  • Ability to work independently

  • Reliable Transportation

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent

Work Environment

Based on the campus of the Bridgton Hospital at 25 Hospital Drive, Bridgton, Maine, this position is based primarily at the center. This is a part-time 20-25 hour a week position that will require some nights & weekends, requiring some occasional travel for meetings, trainings, and events. The work environment encourages team building among the Center’s staff and volunteer workforce.
